"Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt"

Everyday Ottawa Special Olympics makes a difference in the lives of hundreds of people living with intellectual disabilities. That difference is reflected in their relationships with their friends and their families, as well as many other aspects of their lives.
Special Olympics is a charitable, non-profit organization that provides sports training and competition opportunities at regional, provincial, national and international levels for individuals with an intellectual disability. Its primary objective is to contribute to the physical, social and psychological development of people with intellectual disabilities through positive, successful experiences in sport. These positive experiences help build self-confidence, self-esteem, pride and a great sense of accomplishment.

Wild West Night Friday Event -
![]() | At the Wild West Night Friday November 16, 2007, at the Royal Oak on Hunt Club, Royal Oak staff and Special Olympics athletes and volunteers were serving up some hospitality country style. We had raffle tickets and door prizes, live music and dancing. During the 3 weeks of Rib Fest, all of the Royal Oaks in Ottawa were donating a portion of the proceeds of items ordered of their Rib Fest menu in the hopes of sending at least one local athlete to the Special Olympics National Winter Games in Quebec City next February.
Special Olympics Ottawa would like to thank the Royal Oak for their energetic support of our athletes. |
| In October, Canterbury High School Senior Girls basketball team played host to a tournament. The offered a buy out to the senior students to get out of class for a toonie and the proceeds to go to Special Olympics Ottawa basketball team. I took Fred Rudisela and Amberly Traynor to watch the game and meet the students. We had a great time and they raised $250.00. On November 13, the senior girls team came out to Queen Elizabeth School to join us for our weekly practice. Everyone had a great time. The Ottawa Sharpshooters basketball team would like to thank the Canterbury Senior Girls and their coach John Corrente for their help and their time spent with us. We loved having them. p.s. 3 of the girls from the team will be coming out on a regular basis to help us. Thanks a lot girls. |

Mini Put Event - Things people are doing and donating to Special Olympics Ottawa
On June 13, 2007 the Product Development Team, Service Canada at 333 North River Road, Vanier put on a Mini Putt Golf tournament at Mini-Putt Gardens on Colonnade Road.
They had 92 players come out and raised over $1,400.00 for Special Olympics Ottawa District. I asked them why they chose Special Olympics and the answer was "We support a variety of charities and have been directing our fundraising to those charities involved with children. And the Special Olympics certainly is a worthy cause".
